Now you can tell the world you’re a friend of Tibet with the nation’s first Tibetan special license plate. And when you get your own Friends of Tibet plate, you’ll be doing more than sending a powerful message — proceeds from the sale of every Friends of Tibet plate help Tibetan refugee families preserve their endangered culture.
You can order your own Friends of Tibet license plate online at www.dmv.virginia.gov — and get it personalized with the message of your choice. There are even souvenir plates for Friends of Tibet who don’t own cars in Virginia — or who happen to live in other states.
The very first Friends of Tibet license plate — personalized, with “HHDLXIV” on the plate — was presented to His Holiness the Dalai Lama by a delegation of Tibetan refugees at a special meeting with the local Tibetan communities of the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia.
The Conservancy would like to offer special thanks to Anne Shuyler for inspiring the creation of the Friends of Tibet license plate — and for enlisting the support of Virginia state Sen. Patsy Ticer and Delegate Brian Moran, who co-sponsored the legislation that created Virginia’s Friends of Tibet license plate in the legislature.
The Conservancy would also like to thank our very good friends in the Capital Area Tibetan Association for their efforts to make the creation of the plates possible, by encouraging their members, and inviting friends of Tibet, and of the Dharma, throughout Virginia, to sign up for a potential Friends of Tibet license plate before Virginia’s DMV would issue any new plates.
